2020 Ford Edge Redesign and Changes

In 2014, Ford delivers its Ford Edge SUV in the form of a large makeover. The all-new platform, shared with Lincoln MKX, and a new range of EcoBoost options provide some much-needed enhancements for the nearly seven-year-old crossover.

For 2019 as a 2020 model year, Ford Edge will see a less extensive revision, but it needs to be done. Updates will range from small enhancements on the outside, to some additional technology in the cab. Our spy photographer recently captured one of the first prototypes of the new Edge testing tested near Ford’s headquarters in Dearborn.

Most of the juicy pieces remain closed, including new revised and revised front fascia. The new headlamps are one of the main updates, but the overall profile will remain almost the same as the outgoing model. Edge will ride on the same CD4 Ford platform.

2020 Ford Edge Engine Specs

The most significant revisions to the new Ford Edge will occur under the hood. The same 2.0 liter and 2.7 liter EcoBoost engine will carry over from the previous model, as well as the more powerful 3.5-liter V6, but the missing six-speed auto replaces the more modern nine-speed gearbox. This new transmission will help improve overall power and efficiency. The Edge currently generates 315 horsepower (234 kilowatts) and a 29 mpg highway, depending on the engine.

The new Ford Edge will take the form of a small makeover for the 2020s model before a potential full reshuffle in 2021. In preparation, the Blue Oval has been seen testing a few prototypes outside the headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan. The latest set of images gives us the best view of the updated Ford Edge SUV.

Although camouflage still covers most of the body, there are some key design elements to note. Front and rear fascia will get a wide revision, including new headlights and taillights. The upgraded wheels will also be available, and in addition the fascia will be one of the most significant changes to the exterior. In the cabin, Edge will present pre-loaded with some additional technology as well.

The updated edges will ride on the same Ford CD4 platform that also underlies the Lincoln MKX. Although the overall profile of the SUV does not change, under the awning Edge will update some powertrain options. The same 2.0 liter and 2.7 liter EcoBoost engine will carry over from the previous model, of course, as the more powerful 3.5-liter V6. Gone by six-speed automatic replaces the more efficient nine-pspeed gearbox. The new gearbox should give Edge some additional performance as well. The SUV currently generates 315 horsepower (234 kilowatts) and produces 29 miles per gallon of highway.

The updated Ford Edge will remain in Ford’s ranks until at least 2021.
