New 2019 Ford C-MAX Future Cars
Ford C-Max comes in two flavors: plug-in hybrid C-Max Hybrid and C-Max Energy. The high hatchback body style offers a more practical alternative to Ford Fusion Hybrid and Energy plug-in hybrid sedans.
Ford refreshes the C-Max hatchback model for 2017 models, so we expect the 2019 model to be brought with just a small revision (we will update this space as soon as we have official info). The Ford C-Max Hybrid front and Ford C-Max Energy are powered by the same powertrains materials as hybrid hybrid sedans and energy plug-in hybrid models. In the 2017 model, power comes from a 2.0-liter 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle I-4 mated to a permanent magnet synchronous motor and e-CVT. Ford rated the gas engine at 141 hp and 129 lb-ft of torque, and an electric motor rated at 35 kW peak power. Combined power rated 188 hp.
The biggest difference between the two models is on the lithium-ion battery pack. The C-Max Hybrid has a 1.4 kWh battery, while C-Max Energy uses a larger 7.6 kWh battery. The 2017 C-Max Hybrid is EPA-rated 42/38/40 mpg city / highway / combined. For comparison, C-Max Energy has a 95 mpg-e range with electric modes only 20 miles and 39 mpg in hybrid mode.
Major Competitors for 2019 Ford C-Max: Toyota Prius, Toyota Prius Prime, Toyota Prius V, Kia Niro Hybrid, Ford Fusion Hybrid and Energy.
The Ford C-Max 2019, which now enters its sixth year, is a compact hatchback available only as a hybrid hybrid or plug-in. It was launched in 2013 as the company’s response to the popular and fuel-efficient Toyota Prius. Higher C-max Hybrid volume has decreased in EPA-fuel economy rankings, and has not sold well because gasoline remains cheap. It is available at SE and Titanium trim levels.
We rate the 2019 C-Max in 5.3 out of 10 possible points, reflecting the lack of active safety features and increased competition from a variety of hybrid models and newer plug-in hybrids. (Read more about how we rate cars.) Which includes the latest Prius and Prius Prime, the second generation Chevrolet Volt, and some mid-size hybrid sedans, as well as a wide range of all-electric models with a distance of 200 miles or more from a distance.
This may be the last or perhaps the last two models for the C-Max pair. While the model will continue in Europe, Ford is expected to introduce new vehicles in the U.S. for 2019 or 2020 that offers hybrid, plug-in hybrid, or battery-electric powertrains. The car, which is rumored to be named Model E, is likely to replace the C-Max version and the low-volume Focus Electric model as well.
2019 Ford C-MAX Interior
Two versions of the Ford C-Max 2019 each offer two trim levels: the SE and the high-end Titanium models. They are well-equipped and represent good grades, especially with high discounts for moving small cars and fuel-efficient than buyers. We rate 2019 C-Max on 6 points from 10, giving it extra points for generally high level standard equipment. (Read more about how we rate cars.)

Base C-Max Hybrid SE comes with a keyless input, dual zone automatic climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, six-speaker audio system, rearview camera, bright glove box, and heating vents for rear seat passengers. . A user-configurable digital display with a fuel-saving fuel tip is standard, like a 4.0-inch display screen in the center of the dashboard.
Titanium trim level swaps with 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless ignition, rain-sensing wipers, LED ambient lighting, leather upholstery, customizable 10-way front passenger seats with lumbar support, and a reversible remote warning system. .
Sync 3 sound and infotainment control system with an optional 8.0 inch touchscreen display on SE standard, Titanium version. This is much better than the dull MyFord Touch system on the previous year’s model, but the hardware still lags behind and we see the day and night display modes switch back and forth quite a lot, which is annoying.
Various options can be ordered individually or in packages that group popular features. Stand-alone items include Ford’s famous hand-operated tailgate power handsfree, heated side mirrors with turning indicators, Sync 3, navigation, and Parking Technology packages that will steer the car into space while drivers accelerate and brake.
The Winter package adds puddle and mirrored heat, while the rear park help system is combined with a power-operated liftgate. Other Sync 3 bundle groups, Sirius XM satellite radio, and Sync Services that include real-time data and upgrades.
2019 Ford C-MAX Engine Specs
Ford has updated its hybrid system for only a little over six years, meaning that the Ford C-Max 2019 has surpassed acceleration and fuel savings by many other modern vehicles. With a price of 3,700 pounds for hybrids and another 200 for Energy, this is a heavy vehicle to start. While going well against the Toyota Prius 2013, the new generation of cars and a number of recent hybrid sedans offer a better balance of acceleration, fuel economy and agility.
We rate 2019 C-Max with 4 points out of 10, reducing the point to feel the severity of the road and the slow acceleration. (Read more about how we rate cars.) Remarkably, the current Prius is roughly the same as the C-Max for driving quality, something almost unimaginable in its 2013 launch.
C-Max is powered by an inline-4 2.0-liter and two-motor hybrid system that produces 195 horsepower combined. The high hatchback is a few hundred pounds heavier than the new Toyota Prius, which is rated just 121 horsepower, but its extra power is needed to drive the weight around. C-Max delivers a decent acceleration from the phone, but it soon stands out and slows down at higher speeds.
Like all hybrids, both C-Max versions can run on electric power alone at low speeds. 1.4 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion batteries from conventional hybrids give you mileage if you’re in your mover. The 7.6 kwh battery larger than plug-in hybrid C-Max Energy is EPA-rated at 20 miles range, and will accelerate all electrically up to 62 mph. However, its range is lower than the 25-mile Prius Prime, various plug-in hybrid sedans in the high 20s, and 53 miles for the latest Chevrolet Volt.
The mix between regenerative braking and Ford braking is first rate, a hard trick to do and marks nearly 15 years of building and selling hybrid vehicles. The mode “L” increases the regenerative braking rate. When the gasoline engine is on, the power blends smoothly and the noise suppression remains good.
Good driving quality behind the wheel, though not the feel of a lightweight and lightweight Focus hatchback. The car is completely 650 pounds lighter, and its responsiveness shows it. C-Max is not too much, but passengers will feel a tighter ride with some road shortages that come directly through the suspension. The driver feels good and makes the car right and easy to install.
